Nuclear power
Introduction
United
Arab Emirate is one of the ambition countries in the field of energy and one of
these areas is a nuclear power. In this essay I will write about the history of
nuclear energy and the development that follows this area of energy.
Early
history
There
have been a number of scientists that experiments led to the discovery of
nuclear energy and all of them were live in different times and different places.
Nuclear energy wants us back in 18th century in 1896, when French
scientist accidently discovered radioactivity was named Antoine Henri Becquerel
and from his began the search for nuclear energy. After five decades of the
discovery of radioactivity in 1938, the research has been developing to discover
of the nuclear fission by two scientists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann.
Development:
After
the cessation of World War ll, the world turned to investment in nuclear energy
as a source of energy. The United States of America was one of the first governments
that invested in nuclear power. In December 20, 1951 was the first time
electricity from nuclear power was produced at the experimental station in
Idaho in the USA but it was a small amount. After several years in 1954 the Soviet Union
completed the first project to generate electricity from nuclear energy in
Obninsk.
Modern developments:
Urged the fears of many governments of global
warming and climate
change, air pollution and the growing demand for electricity to resort to nuclear energy with a lot of challenges, the most
important safety measures
and radioactive waste
management.
Great
nations using nuclear power to produce electricity and heat, and now most of
the countries in the same direction to the footsteps. The article shows “Nuclear power plants provided
about 5.7% of the world’s energy and 13% of the world’s electricity, in 2012”
(Nuclear power - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 2013)
At
the present time increased energy demand in the United Arab Emirate, this has
led the government to take important decisions. One of these decisions based
four plants for nuclear power generation in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The plan
is to complete the first station generate nuclear energy in 2017 and the rest of
these stations by 2020. The article shows “The first 4 UAE nuclear power plants will be located in
Braka on the coast of the Abu Dhabi emirate, between Abu Dhabi city and the
border with Qatar/Saudi Arabia” (Nuclear power
and energy UAE,2012).The production capacity of the four stations about 5.6 GW.
The reasons that have made the United Arab Emirates government moving toward
nuclear energy, its clean energy and conservation of the environment and
cheaper than the usual methods of electricity production
and better serve
the region in the
future.
Conclusion
In the
end, the history of nuclear power has had many
challenges faced by
the scientists. There was also the fear of the use of nuclear energy with a
little optimism. Nuclear power
possible causes many problems if not properly in control, for example, radiation leakage that
has occurred in Japan because of the
earthquake that happened two
years ago. And also made a lot of
solutions in the
field of preservation
of the environment by reducing the
emission of carbon
monoxide and carbon dioxide.
